Not All Heroes Wear Capes

April 18, 2019

This time last year, I had already chosen my album for the Summer of 2018.  This year, I have one for the Summer of 2019.  If We Were Heroes is that album.  The project has shown Tony Famous' progression and growth since his last album, Checks and Balances. In 2017, the album seemed more personal with songs such as "May 2" and "Black Child".  It was a great project, but If We Were Heroes has the potential for commercial appeal.

While the album has a few songs worthy of massive radio play, the song "Consent" is that one song that can take Tony Famous into the next stratosphere.  It's sexy and sensual for the ladies, and it's chill enough for the guys.  It's the perfect Summertime Chi date night song.  For me personally, I see myself driving down Lake Shore Drive, smoking on the finest of Mary, and vibing out.  Just my opinion, but this is THEE single.  For those who are into the whole Drake or Tory Lanez Hip-Hop and R&B blend, this is your "Brand New" or "Say It".  Tony Famous has joined those ranks with this song.

However, the turn up gets real with tracks like "Superbad" featuring Y.A.L. members Sonny Trill and Greedi Phresh.  He also gets his drip on with the track "Aquaman".  Yet, there is one track that stands in a class of it's own.

In 2018, the World lost a great figure in Pop Culture.  Comic book legend, Stan Lee, passed away in November, 2018 at the age of 95. He is credited for creating the Marvel characters Spider-Man, the X-Men, Ant-Man, and every Black person's favorite, the Black Panther.  On the album, Tony Famous has very heartfelt track called "STAN".  The song is performed by Y.A.L member, Rich Da Pitt.  This song is seems very personal, but very relatable.  It's a song that dabbles into feelings. It's a song that brings out pure nostalgia if you're into the Marvel World.  Me, personally, I was a Spider-Man guy as well as X-Men (Beast and Wolverine being my favorites).

All in all, this is an amazing body of work. This is definitely a tribute to the growth of Tony Famous.  If I had to give it a score, I'd give it a 4.8 out of 5. It would have received a five, but I needed more tracks and I know what he's capable of doing it.  Selfishly, I was disappointed.  I LOVE THIS GODDAMN ALBUM!

TONY! NEXT TIME YOU PUT TOGETHER A PROJECT THIS FIRE, YOU BETTER MAKE IT AT LEAST FIFTEEN TRACKS.
